Kunsthaus Langenthal

The Kunsthaus Langenthal is an art house in Langenthal ( BE ). The sponsor of the Kunsthaus is the Kunstverein Oberaargau , an independent association within the meaning of Art. 60ff. ZGB based in Langenthal. The city of Langenthal has been supporting the Kunsthaus's operating costs since 1998. The Kunsthaus Langenthal is housed in the Choufhüsi , a listed building in the center of Langenthal.

history

The Kunsthaus Langenthal was founded in 1992 by a private association, whose members mostly ran the Kunsthaus on a voluntary basis in the first few years. In 1998 the city of Langenthal decided to take over part of the operating costs, which made it possible to professionalise the exhibition. Today the Kunsthaus Langenthal is one of the most important exhibition venues for contemporary art in Switzerland.

In 2009 the Kunsthaus Langenthal received the Federal Prize for Art Spaces , which the Federal Office of Culture awarded to nine institutions for the first time. This is endowed with twenty thousand francs. The Kunsthaus Langenthal was honored for its curatorial concept, which combines the local with international positions, and as a "driving force behind the art discourse in Switzerland."

Conception and mediation

The Kunsthaus Langenthal shows four to seven exhibitions a year. The focus is on current, young Swiss art. Furthermore, thematic group exhibitions shed light on current topics, for several years now again and again on questions of new media and society. Since the beginning of the house there have been exhibitions with historical photography. A reference to the Langenthal location is established in at least one exhibition per year. A catalog or artist publication is published for many exhibitions.

The Kunsthaus Langenthal offers artist talks, guided tours, performances and a program for children.
