Gerda Steiner (* 1967 in Ettiswil ) and Jörg Lenzlinger (* 1964 in Uster ) are a Swiss artist duo.

Life

The artist couple Steiner / Lenzlinger have officially lived and worked together in Uster, Canton Zurich since 1997 , but are mostly on exhibition trips that have already taken them to all parts of the world. A recurring feature of her division of labor is the combination of poetic-looking elements from natural found objects by Gerda Steiner, who has also become known as a wall painter, with Jörg Lenzlinger's mostly artificial installation components made of plastic, styrofoam or self-grown crystals made of urea .

Works (selection)

The central theme of the artist couple is in the area of “people and the environment”. Their participation in the 50th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2003 brought them increased international recognition, where they created a vegetative dream landscape with constantly overlapping and crystallizing objects in the San Stae church with the Falling Garden . Their extensive, mostly site-specific joint works were shown at numerous exhibitions outside of Europe.

Plants inside the container (Buga 2011)

Conceived only in a few exceptional cases as permanent installations: The autonomic nervous system , a 16 meter high, delicate branching tree structure (since 2006 in the foyer of the Museum Kunst Palast in Dusseldorf) or The Sleeping Beauty , a contribution to that of Erwin Wortelkamp initiated sculpture park in the valley of the Year 2009. In the latter work, a six-meter-long flat feed silo , the duo plays with the association of the Sleeping Beauty with the annual winter sleep in nature.

In the installation flood - drink oh heart from the abundance of time! Steiner and Lenzlinger create a three-part relationship between the location (i.e. the Arp Museum in Remagen , which is located directly on the Rhine ), the regularly flooding river with its corresponding flotsam , and the element of water itself, its microorganisms in a separate room as a gigantic enlarged video become visible. This exhibition was also a contribution to the 2011 Federal Horticultural Show in Koblenz, funded by the Swiss Consulate General .
