In the valley there is a 10 hectare sculpture park between Hasselbach and Werkhausen in the Westerwald , which was designed by more than 40 artists, landscape architects, sculptors, writers and musicians.

landscape

The place is characterized by the Mehrbach , meadows, pastures and forests. The way to the works of art is a mowing path in many places, there are also forest paths and trails.

History and conception

The project was created in 1986 and is an initiative of the sculptor Erwin Wortelkamp .

“If you plan to do something now,” said Wortelkamp, “doing something in a landscape is ultimately nothing else than when you have an empty picture surface and you ask yourself what structures can I use to structure it. How can I make a distinction? This goes to a great extent with the vegetation in that you use the vegetation to create spaces. In general terms, what I call a forest here is viewed by me as a body, a spatial body, just as a colleague puts a body in a landscape, and I tried to develop this forest with the landscape architect. "

In the valley work and a. by Claus Bury , Hanspeter Demetz , Lutz Fritsch , Bogomir Ecker , Ludger Gerdes , Ansgar Nierhoff and James Reineking .

The architect Hanspeter Demetz designed the "House for August Sander " as a complex exhibition space , which, together with the eleven photographs on display, recalls the outstanding photographer of the Westerwald and its inhabitants in the first half of the 20th century and at the same time refers to the surrounding Westerwald .

Originated as a family initiative, Im Tal has meanwhile been developed with the help of the Art Association Hasselbach e. V. transferred to the family foundation "Im Tal - Foundation Erwin and Ulla Wortelkamp". Its aim is "in the future to transfer the works from the› im Tal ‹facility, as well as an essential part of Erwin Wortelkamp's personal artistic work, to the foundation and thus to make both available to the public on a sustainable basis".

Events

Once a year - on June 21 (or on the following Saturday) - symposia take place in the valley , at which people from politics, science and art give lectures and discuss.
