Ansgar Nierhoff
Ansgar Nierhoff (born October 1, 1941 in Meschede ; † August 2, 2010 in Cologne ) was a German sculptor . The documenta artist became known nationwide for his stainless steel sculptures.
Life
Ansgar Nierhoff first completed a craft vocational training as a bricklayer , which he successfully completed in 1960 with a journeyman's certificate . In 1964 he obtained the general university entrance qualification at the Frankenberger Edertalschule . Ansgar Nierhoff then studied from 1964 to 1969 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . He became a master student of Norbert Kricke . His other teachers included Joseph Fassbender and the art historian Eduard Trier . In 1965 he moved to Cologne, where he lived and maintained a studio until his death.
In 1977 he took part in documenta 6 in Kassel . In 1983 Nierhoff worked temporarily as an assistant to George Rickey in his New York studio in New York City. In 1986 Ansgar Nierhoff became a visiting professor at the Kassel University of Applied Sciences in Kassel. From 1988 to 2008 he was then professor at the Academy of Fine Arts at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Mainz . In 2000 he received the important August Macke Prize . From 1993 to 1999 Ansgar Nierhoff was a board member of the German Association of Artists , in whose annual exhibitions he has participated since 1971. In 1990 he became a member of the Academy of Arts .
He intensively supported the development of young artists. In this context, he was committed to the Raimund Lehmkul-Kunst Förderpreis , which the Rotary Club Köln-Ville announced for the first time in 2001 and which is aimed at artists who have not yet found a position in the art market. Prize winners included Saskia Niehaus , Kati Barrath and Jan Schmidt .
His work was supervised by the Appel Gallery in Frankfurt am Main, the Ruth Leuchter Gallery in Düsseldorf and the Bergner + Job Gallery in Mainz.
Nierhoff was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 11 (F) numbers 74-77). The grave site is not labeled.
