history

The Offenburg-Mittelbaden Art Association was founded on January 28, 1996. At that time, the city of Offenburg , under Mayor Wolfgang Bruder, gave the impulse for an art association supported by civic engagement .

The artist Jutta Spinner , who had already founded the Kunstverein Mittleres Kinzigtal, was then, together with her husband Ulrich Spinner and other personalities from culture and politics, the driving force behind the activities surrounding the establishment of the Offenburg Kunstverein. Jutta Spinner was chairwoman of the artistic advisory board for ten years and thus shaped the work and development of the association. The first chairman was Ulrich Borsi, followed by Ulrich Spinner.

1997 was the first year with exhibitions; since then around 50 shows have been shown. As a result, well-known artists and newcomers took turns: Lothar Quinte , Günther Förg , Georg Baselitz and Werner Tübke showed their works at the Kunstverein Offenburg, as did Daniel Kojo Schrade , Tanja Mohr and Ottmar Hörl .

Artists from the region were also represented again and again, such as Rainer Braxmaier, Rainer Nepita, Gabi Streile, Werner Schmidt and Raymond E. Waydelich .

The Kunstverein celebrated its 10th birthday in July 2007 with a large exhibition in the museum in the Ritterhaus in Offenburg. With 100 works by 35 artists who had already been exhibited at the Kunstverein Offenburg-Mittelbaden, the retrospective presented a review of ten years of intensive artistic activity.

Since the beginning of 2006, the exhibition rooms of the Kunstverein at the Offenburg Culture Forum have been renovated and expanded. During the two-year renovation phase, the association showed a reduced program for guests at other institutions. With the reopening of the new, enlarged rooms in autumn 2007, he has an exhibition area of almost 600 square meters with professional equipment in his rooms at the Kulturforum.
