Kupitz's house

The Kupitzsche Haus is a listed residential building in the Salbke district of Magdeburg . It is located at the address Friedhofstrasse 5 / corner of Anstaltstrasse .

History and architecture

The house was built in 1901 by master bricklayer Wilhelm Jänecke for master blacksmith August Kupitz . A little later, Jänecke built the virtually identical Friedrichsche Haus in Salbker Repkowstrasse. In 1906 an extension was added to the Anstaltstrasse.

Towards Friedhofstrasse, the facade of the building has four axes, with the axes on the left pointing to the street corner forming a three-storey risalit that emphasizes the corner position. The two-storey right part has a half - timbered construction below the roof . The style is eclectic , citing elements of Gothic and Swiss house style . The protruding wooden decorated roof construction of the gable roofs is striking . The facade has six axes facing the Anstaltstrasse, with various blind windows dominating. The facades are defined by plastered surfaces framed by bricks. The bricks were partially renewed.

The design of the facade with brick strips and plastered surfaces was also used in the building of the Salbke primary school, which was erected a short time later on the opposite side of the street .
