The Kurfürst-Moritz-Schule is a musically distinguished general education high school in the district of Boxdorf in the municipality of Moritzburg . There has been a school on site since 1838, and since 2004 it has been named after the Saxon Elector Moritz , who as the patron saint of Moritzburg Castle is indirectly also the namesake of the community.

history

prehistory

The school at the Boxdorf location can look back on a long history. At first it was organized as a row school , with teachers moving from farm to farm. A children's teacher for boxing villages has been mentioned in the church registers of the church in Reichenberg since 1690. In 1838 the first permanent school building was inaugurated. This original school building opposite the current location was later expanded and now houses u. a. a backery.

1883-1945

The oldest part of today's school building with a classroom and teacher's apartment was inaugurated in 1882. The building was expanded in 1896. In 1907 the school building was given a tower with a clock tower. These parts of the building are protected as cultural monuments .

1945-1992

After the Second World War, the school continued to operate as a school for the community of Boxdorf . Initially, however, the building also served as accommodation for war refugees. The Boxdorfers were also able to use three bathtubs in the school's basement.

After the founding of the GDR in 1949, the school was integrated into their school system . In 1949 school meals were introduced. For this purpose, a small kitchen and a dining room were put into operation in the basement of the school. From 1959 the school was developed into a polytechnical high school , from 1962 children from grades 1 to 10 were taught together.

The acquisition of an approx. 3000 m² field plot right next to the school in 1961 formed the basis for the later school park and for school extensions. In 1966 the gym and after-school care center were set up in the former miller's house at the Boxdorf windmill in the immediate vicinity of the school. In 1970 a new workshop was built on the school yard area.

In 1972 the outdated toilet facilities were torn down and a school extension was built, which provided space for an office for the school management, another classroom and the toilets. In 1979 a new kitchen building with a dining room and a classroom was built in the schoolyard.

In 1986 the school was named " Lilo Herrmann ".

Since 1992

In 1992 the polytechnic high school became a middle school with secondary and secondary education through the reorganization of the school landscape after reunification . Primary school pupils in grades 1 to 4 were taught in Reichenberg from then on, at the Boxdorf school around 180 middle school pupils in grades 5 to 10. From 1992 high school students went to the high schools in Radebeul and Dresden.

In 1994 a new gym was built near the school. As a result, the old gym could be developed into the school stage used by the school. After a few years of consolidation as a middle school, a musical profile was developed in 1995 at the suggestion of the then incumbent Mayor Storm of Boxdorf.

After that, major steps towards school development were taken. The development of the first school program in 1999 ensured the consolidation of the common objective. With the core statements "rural, peaceful, traditional, creative and modern", basic statements were made for a functioning school at the Boxdorf location.

After a two-year process and supported by process moderators from the Saxon Academy for Teacher Training, the school concept was significantly expanded in 2004 and adapted to the changed school landscape. The requirements that resulted from the then new generation of curricula were also incorporated. This was accompanied by the name “Kurfürst-Moritz-Schule” on January 22, 2004. The implementation of the expanded school concept took place within a few years. The day was given a new rhythm, so that since then, lessons have been taught in blocks of 85 minutes instead of 45-minute lessons. The school also developed a distinctive musical profile.

Since 2005, the Kurfürst-Moritz-Schule has offered a partially bound all-day program. Grades 5 to 8 are taught in a bound manner, from grade 9 there is the open form.

From 2007 the school used the possibilities of the Saxon school experiment "School with a special educational profile / community school" for extensive further development of the concept. Changes ranged from the lesson table to performance-based teaching. The school trial was completed in 2016 with the school leaving the last trial classes and officially ended the following spring with the publication of the results of the scientific monitoring. Almost all of the conceptual developments that were tried and tested during the trial period could then be continued.

From 2012 the school took part in the ERINA school trial, in which inclusive teaching of pupils with disabilities was tested. The school trial ended in 2018 and brought significant experience to the Saxon school system. At the school, students with mental, physical-motor or social-emotional disabilities, hearing-impaired and learning-disabled students are currently being taught together with the non-disabled children of the community.

The school received the following special awards:

concept

Musical profiling

In 1995, at the suggestion of the mayor of Boxdorf Storm, a musical profile was set up. A first step was to transform the former gymnasium of the school into a student stage. Since then, the profile area has been strongly linked to music lessons and since 2005, the year when all-day offers were introduced in Saxony, with all-day offers. A special focus is the promotion of the musical talents of the students. There is a large number of offers for this, which extend into the leisure sector. The joint design of artistic projects primarily encourages the students to be active themselves. All 5th and 6th grade students attend the band classes. You can choose between vocals, keyboard, bass, guitar, drums and saxophone. Further instruments will be incorporated by arrangement. The school promotes the formation of bands and offers them various types of support. The highlight is the annual three-day band festival “Rock in the Foyer”.

A second musical and artistic pillar is dance. As a continuous offer from grade 5, it is offered with an ever increasing proportion of actors. The school takes part in the SCHULE-TANZT competition every year. Here students are strengthened in their personality through the positive stress they experience.

Musical productions regularly combine various musical and artistic activities of the students. In addition to specified musicals, productions written by students are also implemented.

A fourth pillar of the musical area is the musical work with event and stage technology.

Community school

From 2007 the Kurfürst-Moritz-Schule used the possibilities of the Saxon school experiment "School with a special pedagogical profile / community school" for extensive further development of its concept. Changes ranged from the lesson table to performance-based teaching. From 2011, this concept was continuously incorporated into regular school operations. The school trial was completed in 2016 with the school leaving the last trial classes and officially ended the following spring with the publication of the results of the scientific monitoring. Almost all of the conceptual developments that were tried and tested during the trial period could be continued.
