The spa of Bad Ems was established in 1715 as the Nassauer bathhouse built and restored in the 19th and 20th centuries and expanded. The listed building is located on a bend in the Lahn and forms the center of the city's spa district. Today it is used as a hotel and conference center.

history

In 1715 the house of Nassau had the old Nassau Kurhaus replaced by a magnificent new building, which brought a number of hot springs to light. Originally a three-wing palace complex was planned, but only two wings were built . The center of the system was the exit of the boiler well. From 1835 to 1849, the Kursaal was built to the west of the Kurhaus complex according to a design by Johann Gottfried Gutensohn , and both components were connected to one another by a colonnade at the same time .

In 1866 the bath became the property of the Prussian state. In 1870 Wilhelm I stayed here for a cure, which led to the name of the Emser Depesche . In 1912/13 the entire complex was completely renovated under the direction of government master builder Birck and greatly expanded in the neo- baroque style. In the course of these expansions, the Kursaal was supplemented by the theater, the chamber music hall and the reading room, both of which now house the casino .

The Kurhaus is registered as an architectural monument in the city's list of monuments.
