The listed electoral Saxon distance column Geising is one of the post mile columns that were erected in the first half of the 18th century in the Electorate of Saxony on behalf of Elector Friedrich August I of Saxony by Land and Border Commissioner Adam Friedrich Zürner . It is located at the train station on the district Geising of osterzgebirgischen City Altenberg (Erzgebirge) in the district of Saxon Switzerland & Eastern Ore Mountains .

history

Originally, a distance column was to be erected in the two neighboring towns of Alt-Geising and Neu-Geising. After a request from both cities, an agreement was reached in 1728 to place a pillar on the old market in Neu-Geising. The column was made by Ulrich Schindler in Pirna and erected at the end of 1734. After the column was supposed to be moved to Neumarkt in 1857, due to cost reasons, it was completely demolished and the stones were sold as building material. The base was probably used in the construction of the war memorial from 1870/71. On the occasion of the 525th anniversary of Geising, a copy of the distance column was made according to the specifications of the Saxon Post Mile Research Group and was ceremoniously unveiled on July 12, 1987 in front of what was then the Geisinghof restaurant .

construction

The distance column consists of seven parts. The base, pedestal and the crown of the pedestal form the substructure. The superstructure consists of an intermediate plate, shaft, coat of arms and tip.
