The listed full-mile column Johanngeorgenstadt one of the Saxon post mile columns , on behalf of the elector I. Frederick Augustus of Saxony by the land and border commissioner Adam Friedrich Zürner in the first half of the 18th century in the Electorate of Saxony have been built. It is located on a small jewelry square in the immediate vicinity of the powder tower and the GDR new building area on Eibenstocker Strasse in the western Ore Mountains town of Johanngeorgenstadt in the Ore Mountains District .

history

Johanngeorgenstadt was one of the first cities in the Electorate of Saxony to receive a whole, a half-mile column and a quarter milestone in 1725. Zürner personally determined the locations for this in November 1722. The all-mile column no. 56 was 14 miles away from Leipzig and was to get its location immediately after the exit of the Adolphus Zechen mine from J.-G.-Stadt . Master stonemason Geilsdorff from Zwickau took on the order for the production of this column . Payment was made from the city council's treasury.

The whole mile column disappeared after the introduction of the new mile measure after 1840. When numerous houses in the old town of Johanngeorgenstadt had to be demolished from 1953 due to the mining of SDAG Wismut , parts of the whole mile column were salvaged. It was re-erected on the market square. In 1978 the column was completely restored. Today it bears the year 1723, although the correct year 1725 is clearly visible on the column.

In the 1990s, the column was moved from the market square to its original location by the Powder Tower. However, the column was built the wrong way round. Row number 56 should have faced the street, which is currently not the case.
