Kurschattenbrunnen (1987)

The Kurschattenbrunnen in Bad Wildungen , North Hesse , in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district , vividly depicts the phenomenon of the Kurschatten . The fountain in Brunnenstrasse forms the center of the promenade between the old town and the spa district, which was laid out in the course of urban redevelopment in the 1980s. Around 10,000 visitors came to the inauguration of the fountain in October 1987 after the allegedly frivolous fountain figures had already been discussed in advance.

The focal point of the fountain is the "human knot", a group of standing naked people, below which the gargoyles are attached. Steps lead up to the base of this group; In addition, it is surrounded by fountain basins, which have other figurative decorations. In one of these basins sits the figure of an older man bathing, who, with a raised right hand and an interested gaze, turns to a bronze female figure who walks across the pavement in front of the fountain. The lady wears a hat on her head held high and is dressed in a slit skirt, blouse and high heels. Depending on the position of the sun, it casts a shadow with a clearly feminine silhouette on the bathing man. It was this constellation of figures that quickly earned the fountain the name Kurschattenbrunnen.

The female figure is one of the most photographed subjects in the city today and is now also sold as a chocolate model. The model for this figure was the sculptor Karin Bohrmann-Roth , who designed the fountain together with Georg Roth and Hans-Ulrich Plaßmann .
