Career

The striker Lorenz played in his youth for the Wuppertal amateur club SC Sonnborn 07 and revealed his talent early on, which in 1969 earned him participation in the UEFA youth tournament in neighboring GDR . In the West German selection he stood alongside Uli Hoeneß and Paul Breitner , among others , but did not get past the group stage with the team. In the summer of 1970, the previous Sonnborn was signed by the Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg . At the time of the change, the only 18-year-old was initially not intended for assignments under coach Rudi Faßnacht . On February 6, 1971 he finally made his debut in the top German division when he was substituted on for Gerhard Kentschke in a 2-1 defeat by 1. FC Köln in the 56th minute . However, this remained his only Bundesliga assignment, as he was no longer considered in the further course of the season and he left the MSV in 1971.

For the 1971/72 season he signed a contract with Preußen Münster in the second-rate regional league. After about two years in Münster, he joined the league rivals SC Viktoria Köln in September 1973 . With this he had to accept relegation in the following year as bottom of the table and then ran on for another year in the jersey of Viktoria. Lorenz died in 1981 at the age of only 29.
