Naming
The school has had this name since 1995, previously it was called the Misburg Gymnasium. It was founded under this name in 1975, one year after the previously independent city of Misburg was incorporated into the city of Hanover. With the later self-chosen name after the Hanoverian artist Kurt Schwitters , the school is committed to the holistic approach of the namesake and an emphasis on musical and aesthetic education.
