Kurt Chelmowski (born May 11, 1924 ) is a former German football goalkeeper who was active for VfB Pankow in 1950/51 in the upper league of the GDR Sports Committee (DS) .

Athletic career

Chelmowski was involved in the beginnings of football in Berlin after the end of the Second World War . At the second Berlin football championship in 1946/47, he took third place with SG Reinickendorf-West. In 1947/48 he rose from the Berlin City League with SG Nordstern . In the 1949/50 season, Chelmowski guarded Hertha BSC's goal 16 times in the Berlin City League . For a short time in 1950 he was goalkeeper for SG Hakoah , which belonged to the second-class Berlin amateur league. A point game was not used there.

In mid-September 1950 Chelmowski moved to East Berlin VfB Pankow. This had played in the 1949/50 season in the overall Berlin city league, but was then incorporated into the DS-Oberliga of the GDR for political reasons . Weakened by the departure of several regular players who did not want to take part in the change to the DS-Oberliga, it was difficult for VfB to establish itself in the Oberliga in the 1950/51 season. After he had already scored a goal difference of 4:13 in the first three point games, the goalkeeper Dietrich Schuster was replaced by Kurt Chelmowski, who then guarded the goal of VfB for 21 point games. He had to put up with 76 goals (an average of 3.6 per game), suffered an injury on matchday 26, and then it was also over for him at VfB. VfB was relegated from the league, and Chelmowski did not return to higher-class football.
