Kurt Fina (* 1924 ; † May 3, 1983 in Eichstätt ) had been Professor of History Didactics at the University of Education, then the Catholic University of Eichstätt , since 1972 .

life and work

After graduation and doctorate in 1955, he worked as a high school teacher. Since 1959 he was a seminar teacher in Würzburg and was given a teaching position at the university there. Fina was involved in the training of secondary school teachers. For many years he was chairman of the Bavarian Conference for History Didactics. Fina was considered a markedly conservative scholar on a Catholic basis. He is to be regarded as an educational theorist in history didactics. His understanding of education is specified as a "conception of historical education rooted in Catholic social teaching".

His publications mainly concerned many aspects of historical methodology, but he also resisted the socially critical history didactics of the 1970s. As one of the first history educators, he investigated how students deal with images.
