Kurt Franz (didactic)

Kurt Franz (born February 10, 1941 in Ossegg ) is a German literary scholar .

Live and act

After the expulsion from the Sudetenland, his family came to the Rosenheim district. Franz attended elementary school in Raubling for four years, then the humanistic grammar school in Rosenheim . After graduating from high school, he soon started a family and studied German, history, geography, art education, pedagogy and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU). In 1964 Franz passed the examination for the teaching post at "Mittelschulen" (today Realschule). Three years later he took the scientific examination in the subjects German, history and geography for the teaching post at grammar schools. He then taught part-time at various types of schools, including a. at the specialist school for opticians and at the police officers' school. In addition, Franz studied at Munich University. There he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1973. The topic of his dissertation is: Studies on the sociology of the poet in Germany in the late 13th century . He then worked for several years as a lecturer in didactics of German language and literature at the LMU. In 1991, Franz completed his habilitation and two years later was offered a professorship for didactics of German language and literature at the University of Regensburg , where he retired in 2006. During his time at the University of Regensburg, Franz was mainly responsible for training students for teaching at elementary, secondary, secondary and grammar schools.

Franz is above all a proven connoisseur of children's poetry and fairy tales. He has also written literature for children (stories, poems). His book Reading Makes You Strong. Everything about books was reprinted and translated into Swedish.

From 1997 to 2013 he was President of the German Academy for Children's and Young People's Literature ; now he is their honorary president.

The Sudeten German Academy of Sciences and Arts appointed him a full member of the humanities class in 2010.
