Kurt Gottlich

Kurt Gottlich (born December 4, 1932 in Graz ; † October 14, 2013 ) was an Austrian lawyer , public prosecutor and constitutional judge . Gottlich was a member of the Austrian Constitutional Court from 1971 to 2002 .

Career

Kurt Gottlich was born on December 4, 1932 in the Styrian capital Graz and grew up there. He graduated from the Law studies at the University of Graz , where he was in 1957 for doctor of law doctorate . After completing his studies, Gottlich joined the Federal Ministry of Transport in 1957 . In 1962 he passed the judge's examination and subsequently worked as a judge at several courts of ordinary jurisdiction and at the arbitration tribunal for social insurance. In 1965 Kurt Gottlich was assigned to the Federal Ministry of Justice and was most recently employed as a public prosecutor . Before joining the Constitutional Court, Gottlich worked as chairman of the senate with the professional title of higher regional judge at the regional court for criminal matters in Vienna .

On March 1, 1971, Kurt Gottlich was appointed a member of the Constitutional Court by President Franz Jonas at the suggestion of the federal government, which he subsequently remained until 2002. From April 1972 until his retirement on December 31, 2002, Gottlich was one of the permanent consultants at the Constitutional Court. At 31 years of age as a constitutional judge, he is still one of the longest serving VfGH members in its history.
