Kurt Hopstein

Kurt Hopstein (born March 7, 1934 in Cologne ; † October 9, 2013 there ) was a German music teacher and composer .

Life

Kurt Hopstein was born in Cologne in 1934. From 1954 to 1958 he studied composition with Hermann Schroeder at the Cologne University of Music . In 1959 he began further studies in Vienna , including theater studies with Heinz Kindermann and Joseph Gregor. Hopstein also took part in composition lessons from Karl Schiske.

From 1960–97 he worked as a teacher of music and German - first in Cologne, since 1970 in Hückelhoven , Heinsberg district. He did some composition and free sound improvisation as part of the educational work. He participated in local cultural initiatives

In 1973 Hopstein performed Andante and Rondo from the Divertimento for small orchestra . Since 1983 his preoccupation with his own compositions has increased again. In 1994 the first performance of the string sextet Forgotten Gardens takes place, which has been available as a CD in a recording by the Cologne String Sextet since 2002.

In 2000 he returned to Cologne. Through contact with various artists, there are further compositions. 2001 the sonata for violin and piano is created, which is premiered by Jörg and Heinz Lengersdorf . 2010 "SCHILFMUSIK" a serenade for oboe, clarinet and bassoon, premiered by the Trio Melanche. The divertissement in G for flute and harpsichord remained unfinished and was arranged posthumously by Martin Lennartz for a world premiere in 2014 .

Hopstein died in Cologne in 2013.
