Kurt Reinke

Kurt Reinke (born March 6, 1933 ; † February 23, 2000 ) was a German yacht designer and book author.

Life

Reinke did an apprenticeship at Abeking & Rasmussen in Bremen as a boat builder and was then responsible for yacht building at A & R. With his collaboration, the one-tonne optimist was created , which Hannes Beilken sailed to the top of the world.

At the beginning of the 1970s he went to the USA to work for Britton Chance Jr. participate in the development of the US-12 America's Cup yachts. At this time he founded the company Reinke-Yachtbau, in which he created self-made constructions. He developed hull and keel designs for cruising yachts and for coastal cruisers. The range of types ranged from yachts with a length of 8 m to 20 m, mainly in aluminum construction. Reinke died of a severe heart attack.

Reinke was the author of several specialist books on yacht building.
