Kurt Severin (born April 11, 1896 in Charlottenburg , † May 12, 1970 in Wolkersdorf ) was a German graphic artist and designer of porcelain decorations.

Life

Around 1925 Kurt Severin worked for the art department and tableware department of the Rosenthal company in Selb and Bahnhof-Selb. He designed and painted decorations for a chocolate service, for coffee services, lidded boxes, vases and lamp feet. Several figures by Gustav Oppel and Hans Küsters wear his decoration. Similar to the decors by Kurt Wendler , these decors were applied by hand by trained Rosenthal painters. Their names are noted on the underside of the porcelain, such as B. Röder, Schneider, Meyer, Schmidt, Schauerhauer.

His “handwriting” can also be found in the Rosenthal advertising. From 1928 to 1932 Kurt Severin ran the Nuremberg workshop “NÜW” for the production and painting of faience together with the former head of the Rosenthal art department, Max Schneider .

In 1936, The Porcelain Book (Adalbert Zoellner) was published with illustrations by Kurt Severin. From 1937 to 1961 Kurt Severin worked for the pencil and drawing equipment company JS Staedtler in Nuremberg.

The city of Schwabach commissioned the artists Max Friese (* 1883, † 1958) and Kurt Severin, who had moved in, to design the conference room. They created a frieze of ornamented inscriptions with representations of important Schwabach companies using 14,000 gold sheets from Schwabach. Since then this hall has been called the “Golden Hall”.
