Kurt Stand
Kurt Alan Stand (* 1954 in New York ) is an American union official and member of the Democratic Socialists of America .
When evaluating the Rosenholz agent file , the CIA came across the code name "Junior", which was identified as Kurt Stand. He was arrested in 1997 by the FBI on suspicion of espionage for the GDR and in 1999 sentenced to 17 years in prison by a district court in the US state of Virginia in a circumstantial trial. At the time, his defense lawyers spoke of manipulated evidence. Kurt Stand sought a retrial and legal rehabilitation. To this day, Stand denies his guilt.
Stand regularly writes articles for the German daily Junge Welt . He was released from prison in January 2013.
