Kurt Wallenfels

Kurt Wallenfels (born June 30, 1910 in Marburg ; † November 25, 1995 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German biochemist .

From 1947 Wallenfels was head of the biochemistry department at Boehringer Mannheim GmbH in Tutzing. In 1953 he became professor for organic chemistry and from 1962 for biochemistry at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg . In the field of enzyme chemistry, he carried out research on the enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism .

In 1969 Wallenfels was appointed a member of the Leopoldina and in 1970 was awarded the Richard Kuhn Medal for special services in the field of biochemistry .
