Kurt Witke

Kurt Witke (born June 28, 1948 ) is a former German football referee .

Career

Kurt Witke from the Electorate of Palatinate was first used in the 2nd Bundesliga on August 18, 1984, the first matchday of the 1984/85 season. He led the game 1. FC Saarbrücken against SSV Ulm in 1846 . From the 1985/86 season he was also used in the first division. The first game under his direction was the game between Bayer 05 Uerdingen and Hannover 96 on September 14, 1985.

He gained a certain amount of media attention in the 1988/89 season when 1. FC Köln played against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (2-2) when he started the game again after a goal by Lauterer, although three players were still behind the goal the fans cheered. A few seconds after the restart, Cologne received a penalty, which they converted to 2-2 final score. The season was marked by a duel at the top of the table between 1. FC Cologne and Bayern Munich. FC Bayern eventually won the title, so the game wasn't decisive for the outcome of the season.

Until 1993 he was active as a referee in the professional field. Today (2011) he works a. a. in the referee committee of the Badischer Fußballverband (district of Heidelberg).
