Finds from Kuruçay in the Burdur Archaeological Museum

Kuruçay is an archaeological settlement mound on Lake Burdur about 15 km from Burdur and 10 km from the famous Hacılar Höyük . It is about 8 m high and has a diameter of 90 m. The settlement there was extensively and intensively examined from 1978 to 1992 under the direction of Refik Duruk . It was created around 6,200 BC. And existed with interruptions until the end of the 3rd millennium BC. Chr.

The oldest layer contained numerous finds, but no architectural remains, which led the researchers to see a layer of relocated settlement material in it. Only in the next shift did the remains of the building come to light, then a fortification wall. All later buildings are from the Copper Age and were founded on 1 m thick stone foundations. In the 7th layer, counted from the surface of the hill, the finds from Kuruçay show close parallels to that from Hacılar Höyük. This also applies to the destruction of this layer by fire.

After a hiatus of around 1,500 years, a new Chalcolithic settlement emerged, which began around 3,000 BC. Chr. Ended in a fire disaster. The same fate overtook a short Early Bronze Age settlement at the end of the 3rd millennium. After that, the place was finally abandoned.

The finds from Kuruçay are exhibited in the Burdur Archaeological Museum .
