The Burdur Archaeological Museum ( Turkish Burdur Arkeoloji Müzesi ) is located in the Turkish provincial capital Burdur in Halk Pazarı Caddesi. It houses, among other things, important finds from the ancient cities of Sagalassos , Kremna and Kibyra in the province .

history

The archaeological finds from the area around Burdur were initially collected in the library, a building that was the only one to have survived from the earlier Bulduroğlu school. The present museum was opened in 1969.

exhibition

The museum has exhibition space on two floors and in the garden. The objects come from all periods from prehistory through the Hellenistic and Roman times to the era of the Ottoman Empire . Mainly an impressive collection of sculptures can be seen on the ground floor. These include statues from the nymphaeum of Sagalassos and the frieze of the dancing girls from the local Heroon . A number of statues from Kibyra and Kremna are also on display, as well as a gladiator frieze from Kibyra. The museum also displays its collection of Hellenistic and Roman urns on the ground floor. Finds from the excavation sites of Hacılar , Kuruçay , Ulupınar, Höyücek and Bubon can be seen in showcases on the upper floor . The collection also includes numerous coins and ethnological items.

In 1997 the museum had a total of 52,941 exhibits, including 18,521 archaeological objects, 29,765 coins and 4,655 ethnographic pieces.
