Kuru [ ˈkuru ] is a former Finnish community in the Pirkanmaa region , about 50 km from Tampere . At the beginning of 2009, the municipality, which had existed since 1867, was incorporated into the city of Ylöjärvi .

As of August 2006, there are 2,792 people living in Kuru. The local area has an area of ​​821.08 km², of which 103.53 km² is water.

Kuru is known for its gray granite and black basalt , which is exported all over the world. Two thirds of the Seitseminen National Park are located in the local area.

Kuru has been twinned with Skinnskatteberg , Sweden since 1945 .
