Kuskovo
Kuskowo ( Russian Куско́во ) is a well-known architectural ensemble in the Russian capital Moscow . The complex, which is now a listed building, consists of a classical palace from the 18th century, a pond and a castle park with a number of striking buildings. The ensemble is located in the eastern district of the city.
The place called Kuskowo was first mentioned in a document from the late 16th century, which also shows that it was owned by the noble Sheremetyev family even then . At that time it was an estate with farms, a manor house and a wooden church. The palace with the park was built in the 1770s based on a design by the Moscow architect Karl Blank and was used by the Sheremetyevs for ceremonial receptions and other leisure activities. For these purposes, the palace park also received numerous pavilions, an orangery , a hunting lodge and an animal enclosure. A small fleet of rowing boats was maintained by the pond. The size of the park is around 230 hectares.
The estate belonged to the Sheremetyevs until 1917. After the October Revolution , it was nationalized and in 1919 received the status of an open-air museum. In 1938, the State Ceramic Art Museum was incorporated into the Kuskovo museum complex.
A 310 hectare urban forest , which was laid out in 1935 , also borders the palace park ensemble . It is essentially a deciduous forest with a larger population of birch , linden and oak .
