The Kuznetsov NK-93 is a turbofan - engines of the Russian company Kuznetsov . The first flight took place on May 18, 2008 with an Il-76LL .

history

Development began in 1988, but progressed very slowly due to lack of money. The development was stopped in mid-2009 for economic reasons. It should be used on aircraft such as the Il-96M , Tu-204 and Tu-330 (possibly also on An-70 and An-124 ).

description

Due to its design with counter-rotating propfans (practically jacketed turboprop ) with eight or ten blades and the extreme bypass ratio of 16.6: 1, it should consume up to 15% less fuel than other engines in this performance class. As with turboprops, fuel efficiency is bought at the price of a low top speed (820 km / h for Tu-330).
