Kvinnliga IK Sport

Kvinnliga IK Sport (IK = Idrottsklubb, German: Sportverein) is a Swedish sports club from Gothenburg . The club is best known for its handball department . This won 14 national championship titles between 1951 and 1972. In the past, cycling , gymnastics , athletics , speed skating and orienteering were also offered.

The club is a women's sports club. Since the late 1970s, men have also been allowed to work in the club.

After the women's department of CK Frigg, founded on February 7, 1926, broke away at the end of 1927, the Kvinnliga IK Sport was founded on January 10, 1928. At first they played in the colors black and white, but at the beginning of the 1940s the club chose the color light green.

The club produced some well-known and successful players who also played in the Swedish national handball team, such as Ruth Svedberg , who won bronze in the discus throw at the Olympic Games in 1928 , and Ann-Britt Leymann with gold in the long jump at the Olympic Games in 1948 . Mona Lisa Englund has won numerous Swedish championship titles. Siv Johnsson , chairman of the club during the 1960s, won the orienteering championship in 1955. The club won 80 Swedish championships for seniors between 1927 and 2006.

Ruth Svedberg was the club's first coach and played in the handball team from the early 1930s to early 1940.

In 1945 Rustan Pettersson was coach of the handball team, which was named team of the year in 1965/1966. Under his leadership, the handball team won 28 Swedish championships between 1949 and 1973, both in indoor and field handball . With this record, the team occupies second place in the Swedish marathon tables , an all-time best table.
