Kyla La Grange (born July 25, 1986 in Watford ) is a British singer-songwriter from Watford.

biography

Kyla La Grange's mother is from South Africa, her father from Zimbabwe. She was born and raised in Watford , a suburb of London. She received a scholarship to Cambridge University , where she graduated in philosophy in 2007. Alongside her studies, she developed her music career at so-called " open mic events ". She also tried her hand at various bands, but nothing came of it.

In 2011, the Chess Club label discovered her and signed her. Her debut single, Been Better , was released that same year. Her song Catalyst was used in the television series Beauty and the Beast and got her the attention of the media and major labels. The following year she signed with Sony Music and released her debut album Ashes that summer . Despite some very positive reviews, she did not achieve a breakthrough. The album was also released on the continent. In 2011 she was included in the list of 10 Female Artists to Watch by the German edition of Rolling Stone magazine . La Grange was particularly successful in Switzerland, where her album made it into the top 20 of the album charts .

While her first album went towards folk pop, she worked on a more electronic sound with the DJ and producer Jakwob on the follow-up album Cut Your Teeth . The Norwegian DJ Kygo created a remix of the title song, which caused quite a stir. This version entered the Swedish charts. The album was released in the UK in June 2014. There it reached number 93. In Switzerland it reached number 22.
