Kyle Gann

Kyle Eugene Gann (born November 21, 1955 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American composer , music critic and music educator .

Life

Gann moved to New York at an early age and studied composition there with Ben Johnston , Morton Feldman and Peter Gena . From 1986 to 2005 he was a music critic for the New York city magazine The Village Voice . Since 1997 he has been teaching music theory, music history and composition at Bard College in Red Hook near New York.

Kyle Gann is one of the few musicians who wrote original compositions for the Disklavier .
