Kynouria
The Kynouria ( Greek Κυνουρία , Kynouria ) is an ancient landscape on the east coast of the Peloponnese . It includes parts of the Parnon and the Thyreatis , a fertile plain on the Argolic Gulf , the area around the ancient city of Thyrea , which dates back to 424 BC. Was conquered and destroyed by the Athenians .
In the modern state of Greece, Kynouria was a province of the Arcadia Prefecture until the municipal reform in 1997 , from 1997 there was the municipality of Voria Kynouria ('North Kynouria', capital Astros ), with the administrative reform in 2010, the southern part of the landscape became the municipality of Notia Kynouria ('South Kynouria', main town Leonidi ) formed.
Another landscape in western Arcadia north of the Lykaion Mountains on both sides of the Alfios also bears the name Kynuria.
