Kyōji Saitō ( Japanese 齋藤 恭 司 , Saitō Kyōji ; * December 25, 1944 ) is a Japanese mathematician who deals with complex algebraic geometry ( complex analytical geometry ).

Life

Saito was in 1971 at the University of Goettingen in Egbert Brieskorn doctorate ( quasi homogeneous isolated singularities of hypersurfaces ). He is Professor at the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (RIMS) at Kyoto University .

Saitō dealt with the interplay of the theory of Lie algebras , reflection groups ( Coxeter groups ) and Zopf groups and singularities of hypersurfaces.

From the 1980s he dealt with deep-set symmetries in period integrals. In the case of the exponential function and elliptic functions, they are linked with Lie algebras. Saitō introduced higher-dimensional generalizations of elliptical integrals (integrals of primitive forms , first considered in the study of the unfolding of isolated singularities of complex hypersurfaces), which are related to infinitely dimensional Lie algebras and examined the associated novel automorphic forms. The theory has geometric connection to surfaces structures , mirror symmetry ( Mirror Symmetry ), Frobenius manifolds and Gromov-Witten theory in algebraic geometry and various topics of mathematical physics in the field of string theory .

He was invited speaker at the 1990 International Congress of Mathematicians in Kyoto ( The limit element in the configuration algebra for a discrete group: a prècis ). In 2011 he received the Geometry Prize from the Japanese Mathematical Society .
