Kyriacos Triantaphyllides (born September 3, 1944 in Palaichori ) is a Cypriot politician ( Progressive Party of the Working People ) and a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Kyriacos Triantaphyllides attended Victoria University of Wellington ( New Zealand ) from 1964 to 1966 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. A year later he graduated from the Christchurch faculty with a degree in didactics. From 1968 to 1970 he taught English and Social Studies at Wanganui High School in New Zealand.

He then moved to Cyprus and was responsible for industrial relations at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security from 1971 to 1973. From 1974 to 1982 he held the post of Personnel Manager at the Cypriot Asbestos Works Ltd.

He switched back to the civil service and was from 1982 to 1992 as a senior civil servant responsible for public administration and personnel and from 1992 to 1996 as an administrative employee. In 1999/2000 he became Deputy Head of Migration and from 2000 to 2004 Director General in the Ministry of the Interior. In addition, from December 1996 to April 2000, he was administrative director of the Ammochostos district.

Since 1990 he has been representative of Cyprus in the committees of the Council of Europe and since 2003 a member of the board of the Committee on Local and Regional Self-Government of the Council of Europe. From 1996 to 2000 he was also a member of the Assembly of the European Coastal Regions and a representative of the Ministry of the Interior at congresses and meetings at European and international level.

From the 2004 European elections to the 2014 European elections, he was a member of the European Parliament . He is a member of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left group . In Parliament, from 2004 to 2009 he was chairman of the delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council and a member of the Committee on Regional Development and the Conference of Delegation Chairs. Since the European elections in 2009 he has been Vice-Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council and is a member of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Delegation to the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly . As a deputy, he is on the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection .
