Kyrrhos (Macedonia)
Kyrrhos ( Greek Κύρρος , Latin Cyrrhus ) is an ancient city in Macedonia . It is located near today's Aravissos between Pella and Edessa .
Kyrrhos existed as early as the 5th century BC. According to an order from his will , Alexander the Great wanted a huge temple of Artemis to be built here after Diodorus . Pliny mentions the city. In the 5th century AD the city was conquered by the Goths ; Theodemir , the father of Theodoric the Great , died there. The city was fortified under Justinian I.
The astronomer and architect Andronikos of Kyrrhos came from there.
