About 12 kilometers from the village is the very salty little lake Kara Köl in a depression on the banks of the Issyk Kul.

history

The history of Kyzyl-Tuu begins in the 19th century when the place was founded. During the Soviet era , Kyzyl-Tuu got its current name, which refers to the receipt of the Red Banner, a prize for successful work, in the 1930s.

For many years, the Kiyiz Duino festival has been held annually in Kyzyl -Tuu , which is dedicated to promoting Kyrgyz customs and traditions and attracts thousands of visitors. The festival includes horse races, the art of yurt making and local products.

Yurt production

Kyzyl-Tuu is known for making traditional Kyrgyz yurts and has an excellent reputation in this area. About 80% of the people of working age in the village are involved in yurt production. There are 102 masters for the production of the kerege wooden frames for yurts in Kyzyl -Tuu alone. The female residents of Kyzyl-Tuu are mainly involved in the design of the interior of the yurts, whereby the ornaments used are considered to be particularly magnificent and filigree. Kyzyl-Tuu yurts are widespread in Kyrgyzstan and are also exported abroad. Because of this specialization, Kyzyl -Tuu is nicknamed the Yurt Makers' Village .

Yurt production has ensured that Kysyl-Tuu is now also visited by tourists who are interested in this Kyrgyz tradition. Tourists can watch the production of a yurt when visiting the village or help build a yurt at a workshop .
