Kyushu Railway Company
The Kyushu Railway Company ( Japanese 九州 旅客 鉄 道 株式会社 , Kyūshū ryokaku tetsudō kabushiki gaisha , short: JR 九州 , JR Kyūshū ) is one of the seven successors to the Japanese National Railways, which was privatized in 1987 . It operates the former state network on the island of Kyushu .
The company's showpiece is the Kyūshū Shinkansen , an express train line opened in 2004 between Shin- Yatsushiro and Kagoshima Chūō. Since March 12, 2011, the route via Kumamoto to Hakata has been extended and thus connected to the rest of the Shinkansen network. There are 137 trains with three train names and two Shinkansen vehicles on the Kyūshū Shinkansen in operation.
The Kyushu Railway Company continues to operate numerous regional and suburban trains.
