Léon-François Comerre
Léon-François Comerre (born October 10, 1850 in Trélon , Nord-Pas-de-Calais , France , † 1916 in Le Vésinet ) was a French academic painter of Symbolism . He was Albert Gleizes' uncle .
Comerre studied art in Lille and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris . The painter Alexandre Cabanel (1823–1889) introduced him to Orientalism . Comerres dealt with portrait painting , images of odalisques as well as mythological and historical scenes, which are stylistically and thematically based on a transfigured symbolism and the Pre-Raphaelites .
Between 1874 and 1875 he had exhibitions in the Paris Salon . In 1875 he won the Prix de Rome for his painting L'Annonce aux bergers . In the following years he lived in London , where he exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts . He was also represented at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts in Glasgow .
