Léopold "Pol" Andries Gernaey (born February 25, 1927 in Gistel , Belgium ; † August 4, 2005 ) was a Belgian football goalkeeper .
Career
"Pol" Gernaey started his career at the age of 16 with his hometown club KEG Gistel . In 1947 he moved to AS Ostend , where he played until 1958. Gernaey worked for Beerschot VAC from 1958 to 1961 .
From 1953 to 1957 Gernaey completed 17 internationals in the goal of the Belgian national team . He took part in the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland , where he was used in both Belgian games against England (4: 4 a.s. ) and Italy (1: 4).
