The Privileged Löwen Pharmacy in Eckernförde is the oldest pharmacy in the former Eckernförde district and one of the oldest pharmacies in Schleswig-Holstein .

Admission

On December 16, 1617, in his role as Duke of Schleswig, the Danish King Christian IV granted the Löwen-Apotheke the privilege of being the only one in Eckernförde to be able to trade in medicines and alcohol. The original document is still preserved today. The Eckernförde Löwen pharmacy is thirteen years younger than the Rats pharmacy in Flensburg , the largest city in the Schleswig region .

The Hirsch pharmacy , which opened in 1701 without a privilege, was only granted the ducal privilege in 1710. This second privilege was not extended due to the insufficient size of the city of Eckernförde, and the Hirsch Pharmacy was relocated to Gettorf in 1836 , where it still exists today.

Only in 1935 did a second pharmacy open permanently in the city of Eckernförde.

Founder and successor

Founder of the Lion Pharmacy in Eckernförde was from Transylvania originating pharmacist John Erman. In 1648 the privilege was transferred to the founder's son, who was also called Johannes Ermann.

Other historical owners were:

  • Paul Ermann, grandson of the founder (1704–1747)
  • Johann Balthasar Riefferstahl
  • Udo HF Linienbach (from 1855), father of the flower painter Max Klassenbach
  • Karl H. May (from 1892)
  • Ernst AG Lyncke (from 1893)
  • Curt Zeigermann (from 1900)
  • Herbert Zeigermann (from 1932), son of the aforementioned

Permanent establishment

Old view of Langebrückstrasse, the
location of the Privileged Löwen Pharmacy for over 300 years

Initially, the Löwen pharmacy was located at Langebrückstraße 8 from 1617 to 1932. Due to the narrow street, the company then moved to Kieler Straße 23, where the pharmacy is still based today. The upcoming anniversary of the pharmacy's 400th anniversary in 2017 will also be a theme in the city tours.

Trivia

There is a geocache hidden near the pharmacy .
