The Rats-Apotheke for Advent, 2011

The Rats-Apotheke on Holm No. 13 in downtown Flensburg is one of the district's cultural monuments .

background

The current building emerged from a gabled house from the 15th century. On May 3, 1485, the southern part of the city was destroyed by a fire. The spar was also affected. In the time after that, the entire affected area of the city was rebuilt.

In 1604 the council pharmacy was set up in the building. It is not the oldest pharmacy in the Schleswig region . The company is thirteen years older than the Löwen pharmacy in Eckernförde . It is the oldest pharmacy and company in the city of Flensburg. The name "Rats-Apotheke" refers to the nearby Thingplatz where the council used to meet and where the city's first town hall was later built.

The unicorn sculpture on the building dates from the 18th century, probably from the period between 1745 and 1766. Despite its distinctive unicorn figure, the pharmacy name is not Einhorn-Apotheke . The pharmacy should not be confused with the former Einhorn pharmacy in the Friedheim district . The unicorn, which looks unusually over its own buttocks, has a crowned cartridge that houses the mirror monogram "F5". This refers to Frederick V of Denmark and Norway . The sculpture is a sandstone copy from 1952. The original of the sculpture is in the fund of the museum mountain .

Around 1750 the building was increased by three floors. The new facade with the hipped roof of the building was probably built around this time . The core of the building from the 15th century has apparently been preserved. In 1966 the entrance was moved to the right side of the building. This changed the appearance of the building considerably. The interior is largely changed today. The cellar from the 16th century, the remains of a room with stucco work that probably date from the 18th century and late Gothic red monastery bricks that were built in were preserved.
