City view of Flensburg von Braun and Hogenberg , which was created between 1572 and 1618, and on which various houses with stepped gables can be seen.

The Nikolai pharmacy in downtown Flensburg in the St. Nikolai district is located on Flensburg's most important market square , the Südermarkt . The building at Südermarkt 12 is the oldest secular building in the city. It is one of the cultural monuments of the district .

history

The building is in the southwest of the square. The year 1436 is noted on the gable , which refers to a previous building mentioned in that year. On May 3, 1485, the southern part of the city was destroyed by a fire. The southern market was also affected. The previous building mentioned was probably also destroyed at that time. Today's Lübeck Dielenhaus was built around 1490 by the ox dealer Jens Lorup. The merchant's house was expanded to the west a short time later. The stepped gable of the building used to be a little less special; many other houses in Flensburg still had such a gable, for example the now defunct corner house by Katsund on Südermarkt, which is frequently cited today as an example. In the area of the old chimney room of the merchant's house, the remains of a late Gothic painting have been preserved, the central motifs of which are a crescent moon Madonna and a cross .

On the right and left side of the central staircase, through which the building can be entered, there are two companionways , each leading to a basement. These two cellars have been used as restaurants since 1877. The floorboard windows on the market side were transformed into shop windows in the same century .

After the Second World War , the Heesch men's clothing store was located in the front area of the house facing Südermarkt. On September 13, 1960 , the brakes of a refrigerated truck driving down Schleswiger Strasse failed . The truck driver drove through Rote Straße and finally crashed into the back of the building at Südermarkt 12, where a doctor's practice was then. 18 people were injured in the accident and 3 people died, including the truck driver. The eaves side into which the truck driver drove has since been redesigned several times at the level of the ground floor . Heesch closed the business in the 1990s. The exact year of the move out was probably 1998. In that year the eaves side was redesigned again. The dolphin pharmacy then moved in. The DocMorris pharmacy was later located in the building . Today the pharmacy is named after the parish or the city district as Nikolai pharmacy. Today's pharmacy belongs to the Friedheim pharmacy on Twedter Plack . The grog cellar is located in the lower right cellar.
