Life

Grave of Max Klassenbach in Eckernförde

Straßenbach was born the son of a pharmacist and was supposed to take over the Privileged Löwen Pharmacy in Eckernförde. From 1876 to 1885 he attended the cathedral school in Schleswig . From 1885 to 1895 he studied medicine in Munich, Berlin and Rostock, Kiel and Bern. After his return to Eckernförde he became known from 1902 as a flower painter from Eckernförde . The city's nurseries made both their greenhouses and flowers available to Straßenbach. Occasionally he “paid” for this with pictures he had painted.

The villa he lives in at Vogelsang 8 in Eckernförde has remained largely unchanged. Straßenbach is buried in the Eckernförde cemetery.

Streckenbach was self-taught and has as still life painter mainly poppies , roses , tulips and poinsettias painted. The poppy he painted in numerous variations is his favorite motif. From 1902 he exhibited his works to the public and quickly became known nationwide. Exhibitions followed, for example in Essen , Osnabrück , Cologne and Görlitz . In order to better disseminate his works, Straßenbach had them reproduced as oil and four-color prints. Several of his pictures were featured on the cover of the US magazine Better Homes and Gardens .
