The Löwenhaus is also called the delivery house and can be found in the old town of Düsseldorf at Liefergasse 9.
Düsseldorf around 1288 at the time of its city elevation: b Lewen (lion) house .

The Löwenhaus or, as the house inscription says, Lieferhaus , Liefergasse 9 in Düsseldorf , is a listed building. It is the oldest secular building in Düsseldorf in stone; the core is Gothic .

Location and surroundings

The building is on Liefergasse, which was built in 1288 when the city was founded. The Liefergasse represents the oldest part of the Ursulinengasse / Liefergasse / Mertensgasse / Kapuzinergasse / Mittelstrasse. The original small-scale development of the narrow Liefergasse is affected by the defiant side view of the building of the district and regional court (1913).

description

There are several interpretations of the origins and original function of the house. One assumption is that it belonged to the corner building on the southeast corner of the first city wall. This assumption is based on the more than one meter thick house walls in the south and east of the building, which speak in favor of “reinforcement” as part of the first city wall. Other assumptions are: the city seat of the counts before the construction of the castle or just their "upper cellar". In 1382 the "Lion House" was first mentioned in a document. Leo von Abbema rebuilt the house in the neo-Gothic style in 1881 . In 1890 the half-timbered walls were replaced. In 1964 the ground floor was converted. The facade is triaxial. The ground floor zone shows blinded, gothic pointed arches. The facade ends with a Gothic stepped gable.
