Leo von Abbema (born August 12, 1852 in Düsseldorf ; † April 19, 1929 there ) was a German architect who was a partner in the Düsseldorf architecture firm Tüshaus & von Abbema from 1876 to 1898 .

Leo von Abbema, son of the engraver Wilhelm von Abbema , was trained from 1870 to 1875 in the studio of the architect August Rincklake in Düsseldorf. In 1876 he founded a joint architecture office with his brother-in-law Bernhard Tüshaus . One of her first designs was a house (1878) at Alleestraße 26 in Düsseldorf. Most of their other joint projects were also residential and commercial buildings in Düsseldorf and palace buildings. At the end of the 19th century, your company was one of the leading architectural firms in the Rhineland.

Abbema and Tüshaus later made the designs (1880) for Schloss Ahrenthal (Graf von Spee) near Sinzig , the basic design (1892) for Schloss Drachenburg near Königswinter , the design (1892) for the planned rebuilding of Esterhazy Palace (Count Nikolaus Esterhazy ) near Tata (Hungary) , for the German Reformed Church in Magdeburg , the Catholic Church on the Hardt in Elberfeld (today Wuppertal ), the groups of houses in the extended Gartenstrasse and in Rubensstrasse as well as for a residential and commercial building (1891) in the Flingerstrasse 22/26 . The home of Joseph Losenhausen in Düsseldorf's Tonhalle Street 16 was built in 1895 and was on two sides by the garden of the old Tonhalle enclosed; like her other buildings in Düsseldorf, it is no longer preserved today. Just like the market hall, a glass passage with permanent shops for groceries and household items, with access from Marktplatz No. 6 to Rheinstrasse .

In 1880 Abbema was under the chairmanship of the painter Ernst Hartmann with Georg Oeder , Vincent Stoltenberg Lerche , Johannes Radke and Fritz Roeber in the decoration commission of the trade and art exhibition in Düsseldorf and carried out some designs with Tüshaus. In May 1884 he married Elisabeth Zengerly from Düsseldorf. Leo von Abbema was a member of the Düsseldorf Architects and Engineers Association .

After separating from Tüshaus in 1898, Leo von Abbema u. a. the house of civil society in Düsseldorf. Around 1904/05 he built the strikingly playful house in the neo-Gothic style at Poststrasse 3 in Düsseldorf, which was damaged in the Second World War . During the restoration, a street-side gable was dispensed with and a set-back attic is found instead. 1907 built Abbema in Oberkassel itself, next to the so-called "bridge castle" of 1905, the house on Luegplatz 2 in the style of Neo-Renaissance , which since 1984 under monument stands.
