Ernst Hartmann (painter)

Ernst Hartmann (born May 21, 1818 in Welsleben , Province of Saxony , † June 26, 1900 in Düsseldorf ) was a German history painter and illustrator of the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Hartmann studied in Dresden , Berlin and Antwerp . From 1847 to 1849 he was a member of the German Art Association in Rome . At times he was editor of the magazine Über Land und Meer in Stuttgart . Hartmann later lived in Düsseldorf, where he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten and lived and worked in the house of the manufacturer of artist paints Franz Schoenfeld in Pempelfort , Adlerstrasse 41a. On September 19, 1888 Friedrich Wilhelm II of Mecklenburg awarded him the title of professor . He was a member of the Magdeburg Freemason Lodge Ferdinand for happiness .
