Lion Palace

The Löwenpalais is a former upper -class villa in the Berlin district of Grunewald , Koenigsallee 30–32. The house is a listed building and has been linked to art for decades through its architecture, history and residents.

The Berlin architect Bernhard Sehring , who also designed the Theater des Westens , built the country house from 1903 to 1904 for Emilie Habel, the owner of the C. Habel brewery in Berlin-Kreuzberg . After 1930 the villa was divided into luxurious individual apartments, in which artists and scholars found a home for several years.

The Löwenpalais has been the seat of the non-profit art foundation Starke since December 6, 1988 . Its purpose is to grant temporary guest stays for young artists in the Löwenpalais and to promote dialogue between artists and the public in all suitable forms.

Well-known artists included Yoko Ono , the fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and Myriam Décroze . The foundation receives funding from the Berlin Senate for Culture. The executive board member is Jörg Starke.
