history

Territorial history

In the Middle Ages, Lützel belonged to the Bieber office , since 1333 a condominate between the Counts of Rieneck and the Lords of Hanau , who - including Lützel - each received half of it from Kurmainz as a fief . Historical forms of name were:

  • Lotzell (around 1450)
  • Lutzeln (1598)

Perhaps the Reformation was introduced as early as 1542 and Lützel became Lutheran . Shortly thereafter, the Counts of Rieneck died out in 1559. Their rights reverted to Kurmainz. The Bieber office - and thus also Lützel - was now a condominium between Kurmainz and the county of Hanau-Münzenberg . This also meant that the "Second Reformation" carried out by Count Philipp Ludwig II in the county of Hanau-Münzenberg, the introduction of the Reformed variant of the Reformation, did not succeed and the Bieber office - and thus Lützel as well - remained Lutheran, in stark contrast to the rest of the county of Hanau-Munzenberg. In 1684 the condominium between Mainz and Hanau was dissolved by a contract: The Bieber office was completely transferred to Hanau together with the Lohrhaupten office . Mainz received the joint office of Partenstein in full. 1736 died with Count Johann Reinhard III. the last count of Hanau and the county of Hanau-Münzenberg fell to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel (from 1803 " Electorate of Hesse "). In 1753 Lützel were united with the neighboring Breitenborn to Breitenborn / Lützel .
