L'Année liturgique
L'Année liturgique ( French 'the liturgical year') is a work of the French Benedictine and first abbot of the re-established Solesmes Abbey Prosper Guéranger . It is considered his magnum opus .
Content and effect
The work contains a complete 15- volume commentary on the liturgical texts of the church year as well as translations of the texts of the Breviarium Romanum and the Missale Romanum into French. His commentary often refers to other liturgical families of the Eastern and Western Churches . For the liturgical year from Pentecost , Lucien Fromage continued the work.
The work promoted interest in the liturgy and led to the emergence of the liturgical movement . It has been translated into numerous European languages and sold 500,000 times over 60 years.
