Reiner Kaczynski

Reiner Kaczynski (born May 11, 1939 in Breslau ; † January 15, 2015 in Flintsbach am Inn ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and liturgical scholar .

Life

Reiner Kaczynski studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome from 1958 to 1965 after graduating from the Humanistic Gymnasium in Rosenheim . On October 10, 1964, he was ordained a priest in Rome. After pastoral work as a chaplain in Munich , he completed a further degree in theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the German Liturgical Institute (DIL) in Trier , where he was also a research assistant for the courses at the Liturgical Institute from 1968 to 1970 was in Trier. In 1971 he was supported by the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Trier in Balthasar Fischer with the liturgy scientific work The Word of God in the liturgy and daily life of the communities of St. John Chrysostom to Dr. theol. PhD.

He was a consultant for the German-speaking area at the Congregation for Divine Worship (during the tenure of Prefects Antonio Samorè and James Robert Knox and Secretary Annibale Bugnini ) at the Curia in Rome (1971-1976) and a permanent guest of the Liturgy Commission of the German Bishops' Conference as well of the International Working Group of Liturgical Commissions in the German Language Area (IAG) (1971–2001). In 1976 he became a full member of the German Liturgical Institute in Trier.

After a lectureship in liturgical studies at the University of Regensburg and an (incomplete) Habilitation studies at the University of Muenster followed 1,980 reputation as Professor of Liturgical Studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich. At the same time, he was appointed director of the Herzogliches Georgianum seminary in Munich, the second oldest Catholic seminary in the world. In 2004 he retired.

Kaczynski was appointed by Pope John Paul II as Consultor of the Congregation for Divine Worship (since 1989: Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments ) (1984-1994). From 1987 to 2005 he was a member of the Diocesan Commission for Liturgy and Church Music in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

Act

With his works Catecheses baptismales (Renewal of the Liturgy) and Sacrosanctum concilium (Second Vatican Council), Kaczynski presented two extensive works that have appeared in several languages. Since the adoption of the liturgy constitution, he has compiled the relevant Roman documents for the public in the three volumes of his Enchiridion documentorum instaurationis liturgicae . With more than 300 publications, he has commented on and scientifically accompanied the efforts for liturgical reform within the Catholic Church.
